WATA partners with Lumo Trains to launch exclusive sustainable water range

 

WATA has partnered with Lumo Trains to bring premium, sustainable North East spring water to rail travellers across the UK. As part of the collaboration, WATA has been commissioned as Lumo’s exclusive water supplier, launching a signature Lumo edition can designed specifically for the train operator’s network.

 

Rooted in the North East, WATA was created to tackle plastic waste by offering fully recyclable aluminium cans as a premium alternative to plastic bottles. Since launching in 2024, the brand has built a strong following through its distinctive Geordie identity, premium positioning and commitment to sustainability.

 

Lumo’s ethos of operating a world-class fleet of electric trains and championing local supply chains made the partnership a natural fit. Both brands share a clear mission to reduce environmental impact while delivering a better experience for customers.

 

 

As part of the partnership, Lumo will introduce 330ml still and sparkling WATA cans across its services, connecting Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle and London. The exclusive Lumo edition design features the train route across the can, creating a unique travel-led product experience.

 

The collaboration also extends beyond onboard sales. Lumo and WATA will support Newcastle Frontrunners’ annual Pride Run this summer by donating hundreds of WATA cans to the event, reinforcing both brands’ commitment to community and inclusion.

 

WATA has previously produced limited-edition cans for leading North East figures and major music and media events, including special collaborations with Ant and Dec, Joel Corry, Patrick Topping and others. The Lumo partnership marks WATA’s first large-scale national travel retail collaboration.

 

By replacing plastic bottles with fully recyclable aluminium cans and sourcing locally, the partnership delivers a more sustainable and premium hydration experience for rail passengers, while showcasing North East innovation on a national stage.
